Creative Studies-Assignment 2 Thematic Project-Creative Multimedia

Title: Creative Thinking

The first thing that comes to our mind when we talk about the “creative multimedia” is the FCMers because we are the one who always interact with the creative multimedia, either using them to present our work or looking for inspiration. The term of “creative” can be defined as a new idea, new concept or the new associations of existing idea or concept while the term “multimedia” is a medium that have the combination of multiple content forms, usually includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms. Basically the “creative multimedia” is just a tool that we used to present our idea and concept, or a stage that allow us to spread out the idea. The creative multimedia is driven by the creative thinking, the processes by which the imaginary sense perceptions arise and manipulated. The creative thinking is what the FCMers have to master and adapt in order to create something really different from the existing one.

The creative thinking is about the uniqueness and specialty. How can you tell whether a person have the creative thinking or not? First of all, “Judge a book by its cover”, we can tell by judging their appearance because the ways you wear always reflect the behavior and characteristic of who you are. The people who think creatively usually dare to be different and enjoy on doing so. They like to try on different kinds of wearing styles, mix and match their clothes until they looks so fashion and stylish and changing their hairstyles or color every month. Besides that, these people are always the trend starter, they do not look fashion in stereotype, for example boy cannot wear pink color shirt. In the other hand, for those who do not think creatively, the term of fashion in their mind is just troublesome and unnecessary. Instead of spending time on attire or dolling up themselves, they prefer comfortable. They wear whatever without thinking so much as long as it’s comfortable. In the end, they look dull and not outstanding at all.

We can also differentiate the creative thinking person from their living lifestyle. The traditional life style, work during the day and rest during the night does not work on those creative thinking person. Instead of living such a boring life they rather go for a crazy one. The nightlife is a basic condition. For instance, the FCM students prefer to work at late night because the ideation comes easily during the night hence they can work more efficiently during the night. Furthermore, there are some different between creative thinking person or not in the interest aspect. The creative thinking peoples usually prefer visual kind of stuff. They watch anime or movie instead of reading a long heavy novel. The creative thinking person also more tend to outdoor activities because they are more active compare to non creative thinking person. They like to explore the world, curious on everything, adventure, travel and experience everything by their own but definitely not staying home and reading an encyclopedia. The social life of people with creative thinking is much more interesting compare to others. They like to make friends everywhere, hanging out with friends, gather for some event. For example, the idea come out from a brainstorming of a group of people are surely better than the idea from a single person.

The advantages of having a creative thinking is easily come out with some new idea, work on that and you will get profit. The creative thinking is also a good way for problem solving. You don’t have to think until your head crack and come out with a complicated and unsuitable solution but the creative thinking can let you have a simple yet precisely solution. On the other hand, the creative thinking also can bring you some negative effects. The very first and serious problem is the Bipolar disorder. According to the Wikipedia, Bipolar disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a category of mood disorders such as mania, milder and hypomania. There is significant evidence to suggest that many people with creative talents have suffered from some form of bipolar disorder, for example the well known artist, Vincent Van Gogh. For your information, the people who involved in art have higher chance to face this disease. Besides that, the public mostly those who are stereotype minded think the people with creative thinking are abnormal. It’s due to the different way we solving problem or the different way we talk.

In the conclusion, we believe that the creative thinking is really important for all of us to develop. You need not to be involved in art. The creative thinking can be apply on everything and it’s better to get start since we are young because the children’s mind are not influence by the bunch of rules, laws and restriction which will limited the growth of creativity. Although there are some negative effect that you might face, but the chances are not high and you can avoid that easily with the correct way of express your emotion.

Final Assignment- Mind Map

Our Final Assignment for Malaysian Studies is thematic project - Creative Multimedia, the logical mind map that we have done show all the stereotype idea that related to the main topic, creative multimedia. For example, the majoring, the software and so on.

After that, we think about the idea for our specific topic, creative thinking. This time, we try to think differently and avoid all the stereotype's idea. We come out something like living lifestyle and negative affects.

Week 10 - Random Word/Iamge Association

An Article to share
It's Time To Think Like a FOOL!!!!
by Roger Von Oech -http://blog.creativethink.com/2010/03/its-time-to-think-like-a-fool.html-

It's that time of year again! And it's time for one of my very favorite creative thinking strategies:

Think Like A Fool

Carrying the strategy of "looking at things differently" to extremes brings us to the realm of the fool, the being for whom everyday ways of understanding have little meaning.

It's the fool's job to extol the trivial, trifle with the exalted, andparody the common perception of a situation. In doing so, the fool makes us conscious of the habits we take for granted and rarely question. A good fool needs to be part actor and part poet, partphilosopher and part psychologist.

And throughout history, the fool has been consulted by Egyptian pharaohs and Babylonian kings, Chinese emperors, Greeks tyrants, and Hopi Indian chiefs.

The fool will reverse our standard assumptions. He'll say, "If a man is sitting on a horse facing the rear, why do we assume that it is the man who is backwards, and not the horse?"

The fool notices things that other people overlook. He might ask, "Why do people who pour cream into their coffee do so after the coffee is already in the cup, rather than pouring the cream in first and saving themselves the trouble of stirring?"

The fool can also be irreverent. He'll pose riddles such as,

"What does a rich man put in his pocket that the poor man throws away?" When he answers, "Snot," he forces us to re-examine the sanctity of our everyday rituals.

The fool can be cryptic. He'll say the best way to see something is with your ears. Initially, this may seem weird, but after you've thought about it, you might agree that listening to a story conjures up more images than watching television.

The fool can be absurd. Having lost his donkey, a fool got down on his knees and began thanking God. A passerby saw him and asked, "Your donkey is missing; why are you thanking God?" The fool replied, "I'm thanking Him for seeing to it that I wasn't riding him at the time. Otherwise, I would be missing as well."

The fool will take the contrary position in most conversations. Whereas many people would agree that, "If a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing well," The fool might say,

"You don't have to do things well! Indeed, it's okay to do them poorly; otherwise you'll never let yourself be a beginner at a new activity."

The great benefit of the fool's antics and observations is that theystimulate our thinking. They jolt us in the same way that a splash of cold water awakens us when we are drowsy.

Question: Where has "thinking like a fool" helped you look at a problem in a helpful way?

Week 10 - Random Word/Iamge Association

This week, we talk about the Random Word and Image Association. Basically, the random word is the extension of juxtaposition, a more easier way that help you to get the idea. The random word works as a catalyst which motivate your idea, then you come out a new idea which the random word is not included.

The random word always work with a problem or situation, relate your problem to any random word that come to your mind or everywhere else, then try to think about the random word you chosen and elaborate it. Finally relate back to your problem. It's a good design if the problem is solved in a simplest and efficient way.

Week 9 Juxtaposition(Exercise)

This week, Mr. Radzi give us some exercise about juxtaposition, just to let us completely understand what juxtaposition is about. This was the first class that ended at 6pm, simply because the exercise given are interesting and interactive. I think most of us are quite enjoying. Anyway, i hope the rest of the classes can be like this, at least not boring notes, but some interactive exercise can actually help us on the understanding.

There are the exercise that we have done during the class.
First, we are given 2 groups of words, and then choose 3 numbers that you like, according to the groups of words and the numbers beside them, then, use those words that u chosen, form a sentence and sketch it out.

After that, combine the words you chosen to become a totally new word. For example, Flowerwood, Flywater and sketch it out. The last exercise was, HOW MERGERS GO WRONG?
we are requested to merge 2 kinds of animals together, hence, they must not survive.I used elephant and hen's feet, trying to make the elephant unbalance, of course, this is not the answer.

The answer is............................................................................

A fish with a bird leg
